HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Mislata Band was founded in 1907 with the name "Banda Nova". Its first president was Severino Pérez Brell and its first director was Jose Maria Abad Rius, who led the Band from 1907 to 1930.

From 1930 to 1936 the Band was directed by Tomás Juan Lliri, Emilio Marín, Salvador Barber and Miguel Marcos. The Band was inactive during the Spanish Civil War.

In 1939 the Band continued its activities under the baton of Andrés Guna García, who was succeeded by Valentín Puig Yago in 1958, who remained in post until 1963.

From 1963 to 1986 the Band was directed by Roberto Sáez Cambres. Francisco Chornet Mena led the band from 1986 to 1991, when he was succeeded by Ferran Ferrer.

From 1960 to 1989 the Mislata Band regularly participated in the Valencia International Wind Band Contest, taking part 17 times in Division One, Special Division "B" and the Special Division, winning first, second or third prize almost every time.

The Mislata Band has had the honor of being directed by excellent principal conductors such as Lamberto Olmos Saturnino, Emilio Tornero Romero, Pascual Balaguer Echevarría, Jose Vicente Herrera Romero, Francisco Fort Fenollosa, Pere Vicente Alamá, Francisco Perelló Aldás, Andrés Valero Castells and Ángel Martínez Escutia. Its current director is Francisco Valero-Terribas.

More recently, the Band has participated in contests in Requena (1993, third prize), Leganés (1997, first prize), Cullera (2003, Division One, first prize), Valencia (2006, Division One, second prize), Minglanilla (2008, second prize) and Valencia (2013, Division One, fourth prize), and the 4th Wind Band Festival "Baeza, Patrimonio de la Humanidad" (2014).

BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR

Francisco Valero-Terribas

Francisco Valero-Terribas began his training in the clarinet at the Valencia Superior Conservatory of Music, graduating with a degree in Orchestra Conducting. After winning various contests for young performers, he began to perform as a clarinettist with some of the most prestigious Spanish orchestras (RTVE, ONE, OSM, etc.) while he completed his studies in conducting at internationally-renowned academies and universities (Chigiana, Fundación Eutherpe, Järvi Academy, Manhattan School of Music, Enescu Liceum and the Universities of Alcalá de Henares and Granada), with teachers such as Kurt Masur, Bernard Haitink, David Zinman, B. Aprea, Paavo and Neeme Järvi. He also studied piano repertoire with Soriano, Achúcarro and Horacio Gutiérrez.

His work with soloists has been widely acclaimed by both colleagues and critics, including collaborations with soloists such as Morley, Magri, Rodríguez, De Solaun, Petrova, Melikyan, Zhelezcheva and Burchuladze. He has also premiered compositions by Encinar, Díaz, Núñez, Zavala and Oliver Knussen.

He has conducted orchestras in Estonia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Portugal, France, Bulgaria, Italy, Switzerland, Israel and Spain. Among these appearances, the following are particularly noteworthy: Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Orchestra Sinfónica di Bari, North Czech Philharmonic, Bulgarian Opera State, BMS Rio de Janeiro, Festival Strings Lucerne, Orquestra do Algarve, Kiev Theatre Orchestra, National Radio Orchestra Bucharest, Pärnu Linnaorkester, Haifa Symphony, Orquestra Simfònivca de Balears, Orquesta de Extremadura, World Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestras of Spain, Estonia and Armenia.

In 2011 and 2012, he was the Director of the Contemporary Music Academy of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain. He was Assistant Director of the Palau de les Arts "Reina Sofía" of Valencia, and of various opera and symphony productions, working together with Maestros Isaac Karabtchevsky, Yoel Levi, Omer Meir Wellber and Jesús López-Cobos.

Since 2010 he has been the director of the Wind Band of the CIM of Mislata.
