Banda "Asociación Amigos de la Música" of Yecla

HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Asociación de Amigos de la Música was founded in 1974, thanks to the enthusiasm of its first president and promotor, Luís Chirlaque Milla, and a group of musicians and friends.

The Yecla Wind Band gave its first performance in 1976 in the opening ceremony of the local September Fair.

The Band has released various CDs as part of its own collection, "Aires de Yecla".

It has won many prizes and commendations over the years, locally, nationally and internationally. These include six first prizes, seven second prizes and two honorable mentions for the best band in the Region of Murcia.

Its Music School currently has more than 700 pupils, studying over 20 subjects. The school is an accredited center for the ABRSM and ROCKSCHOOL, London.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR

Ángel Hernández Azorín

Ángel Hernández Azorín was born in Yecla in 1974. He studied at the Murcia Superior Conservatory of Music, where he was taught by Manuel Miján, and completed his advanced studies in saxophone with Antonio Salas.

Since 1996 he has been the principal conductor of the Wind Band of the AAMY.

In 2002 he was awarded his Official Diploma in Wind Band Conducting from the Escuela Comarcal de la Vall D'Albaida (Valencia), where he studied with Maestro José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana. In 2010 he obtained an Advanced Diploma in Wind Band Conducting from the Instituto Superiore Europeo Bandístico in Trento (Italy), where he was taught by Jan Cober.

He is the Secretary of the National Association of Wind Band Directors. He has won the prize for the Best Conductor at the International "Flicorno d'Oro" Contest in Italy. He was a semifinalist in the International Wind Band Conductors Contest in Kerkrade in 2013. He has also been a finalist in conducting contests in Siena (Italy) and Villena (Spain).
