Division One

Banda Sinfónica del Centro Instructivo de Arte y Cultura La Vall D’Uixó

HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Band's origins can be traced back to 1941 when the U.M Valldeuxense de Educación y Descanso was founded (1941-1965). Its members would go on to form the Municipal Band (1965-1972), and when this group was dissolved in 1972, the musicians founded the Wind Band of the Centro Instructivo de Arte y Cultura (CIAC), with the support of the Association with the same name. Its main objective was to promote culture, focusing on the performance and enjoyment of music. To this end, they have had their own social headquarters since 1977.

The Wind Band of the CIAC is an integral part of the town of La Vall d'Uixó, as can be seen from the number of public events in which it takes part, as well as it being called on to participate in events in the Valencia Region and in other parts of Spain, such as concerts and festivals.

The Band has performed abroad many times, including visits to the French towns of Albi, Nimes, Valance d'Agen, and trips to international festivals in La Rochelle and Villefranche de Rourge. In 2007 they travelled to the Latino Cultural Festival, held in the Queens Theater in New York, where they were congratulated by the organizers and the Spanish Consul to the United States.

The Wind Band of the CIAC has won various prizes, including: numerous prizes in Division One of the Castellón Provincial Contests; first prize in the 12th Valencia Region Contest (1990); first prize in the "Ciudad de Leganés" Contest (1995); first prize in the "Ciudad de Cullera" contest (1998); first prize in the 10th International "Villa de Aranda" Contest (2009); and, most recently, first prize in the 6th International "Villa de Dosbarrios" Contest (2013).

The Wind Band of the CIAC holds the Castellón Provincial Government Gold Medal. In 1994 the Valencia Regional Government awarded the Band its highest honor in recognition of its cultural, social and educational work.

The Band's current director is José Luís Civera Domínguez.
