HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Flute Orchestra of Nagoya University of Arts (Japan) is a large flute choir which was formed in 1982 as part of the curriculum for students specializing in flute studies at the Nagoya University of Arts.

In addition to its weekly rehearsals and appearances in concerts organized by the University, the Flute Orchestra is an active participant in both national events and flute conventions.

Through its musical activities the Flute Orchestra gives students the opportunity to further develop their skills while also contributing to the local community.

The Orchestra has toured in Belgium and the USA and its performances have earned it a favorable reputation.

The Flute Orchestra's repertoire is very diverse, combining works originally written for flute choirs with orchestral arrangements of masterpieces. Its rich and warm sound offers a wide range of tessiture, from the high pitch of the piccolo flute to the low pitch of the contrabass flutes.

In May 2002 the Flute Orchestra of Nagoya University of Arts performed during the signing ceremony of the twinning agreement between the classes of Nagoya University of Arts and the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, Artesis University College, Antwerp.

In March 2005 the Flute Orchestra performed in the Robert and Judi Newman Center, having been invited there by the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver.
