Unió Musical "El Xúquer" de Sumacàrcer
HISTORY OF THE BAND
The Unió Musical "El Xúquer" of Sumacàrcer was founded on 1 September 1930.
Since its creation, the Band has enjoyed great success in various contests.
In 1975, three directors joined the Band, Joaquin Vidal i Pedrós, Liberto Benet and Josep Rosell, ushering in a period of innovation which is still viewed as the Band's golden age.
In 1985 and 1986, the Band took part in the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia", winning a third and second prize respectively.
At the end of 1993, Vicent Barberá i Puig became the Band's director. Under his baton, the Band participated in the Provincial Contest in 1994 and 1995, winning a third prize in Division Two.
In early 2001, David Pons i Garcia was chosen to be president of the Association, and David Penades i Fasanar its director, with whom the Band performed in April 2002 in the Palau de la Música in Valencia.
In 2004, the Band took part in the Provincial Wind Band Contest organized by the Valencia Provincial Government, and won first prize in Division Three. The same year, they represented Spain in an International Festival for European Youth Orchestras in Cheb (Czech Republic).
In 2005, the Federation of Music Societies awarded the Association its Silver Medal in recognition of its 75th anniversary.
In April 2007, the Association celebrated "El Mes de la Música", a cultural project which filled the month with music-related activities.
The Association entered a new phase of its history in 2014, when José Luis Galdón González, a member musician, became President, and Josep Ros Garcia, a young citizen of the town and also a member musician, became director. They, together with a new governing board, have taken the initiative of entering the Band in the CIBM 2015.
