Division Three

Corps Philharmonique de Châtilon - Aosta

HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Corps Philharmonique de Châtilon was founded in 1780 with the name "Musique" and is one of the few Italian ensembles which dates back to the eighteenth century. Ever since, despite the turbulence of regional and world history, the band has continued its activities without interruption. Indeed, their presence has been noted at all the important events in the Italy and border towns, such as royal family visits, the consecration of the church in 1905, and the return of soldiers from the wars.

Recently, the Corps Philarmonique has focused on the training of its members and benchmarking its programs against those elsewhere in Italy and Europe. In this vein, they have spent time with Maestros with considerable experience and have taken part in exchanges with numerous Italian, French and Spanish bands, as well as giving performances overseas.

The group give a dozen concerts every year. In 2013 they played in Gresoney, on the shores of Lago Gabiet, at 2,300 meters in altitude. This performance was an adaptation, with singers, of the opera "La Traviata" by Giuseppe Verdi, under the direction of Fulvio Creux. In 2014, in the same location, they performed the musical and literary show, "Divina Comedia", with music by Robert Smith and texts by Dante Alighieri. Also in 2014, on behalf of the Consiglio Regionale della Valle d'Aosta, they gave a concert entitled, "Et in Terra Pax", to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War.

The activities of the Corps Philarmonique include the running of its own music school and performing as a youth band in the 18th edition of its Music Festival.
