Pilar Jurado
A composer, singer and orchestra conductor, Pilar Jurado is the first woman to premier her own opera, La página en blanco, in the Teatro Real (Madrid).
Her repertoire spans from classical to contemporary music. She is a renowned singer who has performed and recorded works by famous Spanish and foreign composer with the most prestigious orchestras under the baton of acclaimed conductors.
As a composer, she has premiered more than 90 works and has received commissions from the Spanish Ministry of Culture, various Spanish and American universities, international festivals and opera houses.
She currently combines her work as a performer with composing. In the last two years she has premiered: Hard-Core, a concerto for orchestra, commissioned by the Orquesta Nacional de España; Tres Cantos Sefardíes with the London Symphony Orchestra, Suite de la Página en Blanco, a new work from the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España; her second opera, Mi Diva sin mí, premiered in the Madrid Teatro de la Zarzuela; In principio, et nunc, et Samper, a piece written for the Norwegian voice ensemble, Nordic Voices, considered to be one of the best groups in the world in their genre.
She has recorded two important CDs: one titled Arias de Cine, a collection of the most famous arias featuring in movie soundtracks; and the other is a collection of Spanish classics recovered from the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, entitled El diablo en el poder (de la sombra a la luz), which she presented on 6 November 2014 in the Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid).
