Pieter Jansen

Pieter Jansen studied piano with Jo Dusseldorp and Jean Antonietti, percussion with Jean Semmeling, and conducting with Piet Stalmeier at the Conservatorium Maastricht in the Netherlands. He started his career as principal percussionist at the Limburg Symphony Orchestra in Maastricht. In 1985, he was appointed Professor in Percussion, and since 2008 he has also been Professor in Conducting at the Conservatorium Maastricht.

Pieter Jansen won various national awards together with a number of renowned top Dutch wind bands including Harmonie St. Aemiliaan Bleijerheide, Koninklijke Philharmonie Bocholtz and Harmonieorkest Concordia Treebeek. In 1996, he was appointed Principal Director of Music of the Royal Military Band in The Hague. In 2001, Pieter Jansen moved to the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Rotterdam as Principal Director. With both bands he travelled around the world, performed many military ceremonies and concerts, and recorded various CDs.

From 2008 to 2012, Pieter Jansen was the Inspector of Military Music of the Netherlands Armed Forces.

Since 2012, Pieter Jansen has been active as a guest conductor and gives master classes for conductors all over Europe, alongside his work at the Conservatorium Maastricht. He also acts as a juror in many national and international competitions.
