HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Mislata Band was founded in 1907 with the name "Banda Nova". Its first president was Severino Pérez Brell and its first director was Jose Maria Abad Rius.

From 1963 to 1986 the Band was directed by Roberto Sáez Cambres. Francisco Chornet Mena led the band from 1986 to 1991 when he was succeeded by Ferran Ferrer.

From 1960 to 1989 the Mislata Band regularly participated in the Valencia July Fair International Contest in Division One, Special Division B and the Special Division.

The Mislata Band has had the honor of being directed by excellent principal conductors such as: Lamberto Olmos, Emilio Tornero, Pascual Balaguer, Jose Vicente Herrera, Francisco Fort, Pere Vicente Alamá and Francisco Perelló Aldás.

Today the music association is made up of:

The youth band with 80 musicians.
The orchestra with more than 50 musicians. It is directed by Raúl Pérez Hernández.
The music school ("L'Escola"), housed in a building owned by the association in C/ Mayor, has more than 300 pupils and 20 qualified teachers who give classes in various musical disciplines to train new musicians for the band and orchestra. In September 2006 the association's new facilities were opened by the Mayor of Mislata, Manuel Corredera Sanchis.
The wind band, which is over 100 years old, with over 120 musicians. Worthy of particular note is the fantastic performance given by our band in the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" in July 2006 when they won second prize in Division One. The band is currently directed by Francisco Valero Terribas and the President of the music association is Tomás Juan Suay.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR

Francisco Valero Terribas

Francisco Valero Terribas was born in Silla (Valencia). He trained in the Valencia Superior Conservatory of Music, graduating as a Superior Clarinet Teacher with the highest honors and the End of Degree Honorable Mention, all under the supervision of José Cerveró.

He has worked with groups such as: Grup Instrumental de València, the Valencia Symphony Orchestra, the Spanish National Orchestra, the Oviedo Symphony Orchestra and the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, where he was an intern in their training academy.

He continued his studies in orchestra conducting in the Valencia Superior Conservatory with Maestro Manuel Galduf.

He regularly attended courses by Maestro Bruno Aprea in the Eutherpe Foundation in León and the Accademia Jacopo Napoli in Italy.

He was selected to attend the following courses and contests in orchestra conducting: Gianluigi Gelmetti (Accademia Chigiana de Siena), Josep Pons and Jesús López-Cobos (Universidad de Alcalá de Henares), Wolfgang Dörner (Micul Paris Festival); the "Jesús López-Cobos" International Opera Conducting Competition, the Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition, and the Besançon Conducting Competition.

The groups he has directed include: the Sofia Festival Orchestra, the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, the Bucharest Radio Orchestra, the Kiev Lyric-Symphony Orchestra, and the Andalucia Youth Orchestra.

He has been invited to take part in the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (JONDE) as assistant director.

He was a member of the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands "Ciutat de Palma", playing the clarinet and bass clarinet, and of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, playing the clarinet and requinto clarinet.
He currently holds a Valencia Municipal Band teaching post.
