Banda de Música Filarmónica Beethoven de Campo de Criptana
HISTORY OF THE BAND
The origins of the Wind Band "Filarmónica Beethoven" of Campo de Criptana go back to the 1850s. Its first director was Francisco Gómez, who held the post until 1879.
It was between 1880 and 1924 and under the baton of Bernando Gómez, the son of the previous director, that the group received its first accolades.
The next director was Manuel Angulo, who remained in post until 1983 and with whom the band received many awards including the Beethoven Birth Bicentenary Medal (1970) from the Tourist Board of the Federal State of Vienna.
From 1984 to 2003 Rafael Calonge was director. Under his baton the band won a first and third prize at the Leganés National Wind Band Contest (1991 and 1996), a second prize in the Requena National Wind Band Contest (1993), a second prize in the Altea International Wind Band Contest (1998) and, finally, a first prize in the Madrid National Zarzuela Contest for Bands (2001).
Miguel Romea Chicote has directed the band since 2004. BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR
Miguel Romea Chicote
A clarinetist trained in the Superior Conservatories of Madrid and Rotterdam, Miguel Romea's vocation as an orchestra conductor began at a very early age.
Always a part of an ongoing process of personal growth and musical development, his training in orchestra conducting has been entirely self-taught. Based on solid theoretical academic training (he studied harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition) and extensive experience as an orchestra musician (he has been clarinet soloist with the Extremadura Orchestra, requinto clarinet with the RTVE Orchestra, a regular member of the Córdoba Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, among others), he has researched and analyzed the repertoire and technique of orchestra conducting over almost two decades, finalizing his training as a guest opera director at the Berlin Staatskapelle.
For personal reasons, to date he has limited his work as a guest conductor. Since 2005 he has directed, in official season, the Region of Madrid Orchestra and Choir, the Extremadura Orchestra, the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, the Region of Madrid Youth Orchestra, the Andrés Segovia Orchestra, the Madrid Municipal Symphony Band and the RTVE Choir, among others.
Since 2002 he has taught orchestra conducting courses in Madrid, Andalucía and Castilla-La Mancha.
Miguel Romea has been the head conductor of the Extremadura Youth Orchestra since its formation in 2004. He was head conductor of the Madrid Symphony Band "Lira de Pozuelo" from 1994 to 2000. Moreover, since 2004 he has been the head conductor of the Wind Band "Filarmónica Beethoven" of Campo de Criptana. He has conducted this ensemble in the Madrid National Music Auditorium, the Palau de la Música in Valencia, the Auditorium in Zaragoza and has given concerts in various music festivals in Spain and Holland.
