FRANCISCO ZACARÉS FORT
Francisco Zacarés Fort was born in Albal (Valencia). He studied at the Valencia "Joaquín Rodrigo" Superior Conservatory of Music where he received advanced qualifications in: Harmony, Counterpoint, Composition and Instrumentation, Sol-fa and Music Theory, Transposition and Accompaniment, Orchestra and Choir Conducting, Trombone, Music Teaching and Musicology. He furthered his studies by attending different national and international specialist courses in the History and Theory of Music, Analysis, Composition, Conducting and Musicology.
His compositions have been performed in Portugal, England, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Israel, Holland, Sweden, Japan, Norway, Germany, the USA, Denmark and Luxemburg, being used as compulsory and free-choice pieces in different national and international contests: WMC Kerkrade (Holland), the 'Flicorno d'Oro' in Riva del Garda (Italy), the Amateur Band Contest in Lille (France), the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia", the Valencia Provincial Contest, the Autonomous Region of Valencia Contest, the "City of Murcia" Contest and the Pontevedra Provincial Band Contest (Galicia), among others. He has also recorded several CDs which feature a great deal of his work.
He has been a member of the jury at the following contests: XIX Valencian Provincial Wind Band Contest (1995); the Autonomous Region of Valencia Contest (1996); the XXII Corciano International Competition for Original Band Composition in Italy (2001); the Pasodoble Composition Competition "City of Alzira" (2006); the Rafelguaraf Festival Music Competition (2007); the Alginet Band Contest (2008); and the FVSM Band and Choir Composition Competition (2009).
Prizes:
- 1986.- Honors Prize, by unanimous decision of the Valencia Conservatory of Music, in the specialty of Harmony and Accompanied Melody.
- 1995.- First Prize at the First Band Music Composition Competition (WMC), with the piece 'Diptic Symfonic', in Kerkrade (Holland). It was the compulsory piece in the Concert Division in the 1997 Kerkrade competition.
- 1999.- First Prize in the International Trumpet Guild 1999 Composition Contest (ITG), organized by George Washington University, Washington DC, USA, with the piece 'Three Portraits for Trumpet, Mezzo and Piano'
- 1999.- First Prize in the First Composition Competition for Dulzaina and Band Music "City of Algemesí", with 'Abstracciones Eufóniques per a Dolçaina i Banda'.
2000.- First Prize in Division One of the XXI Corciano International Competition for Original Band Composition (Italy), with his piece 'Respghiana'.
- 2002.- Prize in the First Castro Urdiales "Arturo Dúo Vital" International Composition Competition (Cantabria), with the piece 'Vitalian Concert'.
2002.- First Prize in the VIII Alicante Province "Rafael Rodríguez Albert" Band Music Composition Competition, 2001 (International Edition), with his 'Lucentum Symphony'.
- 2007.- Honorable Mention and First Prize for the best work entered in the "Villa de Muro" International Band Music Composition Competition for his work 'In Versus'.
- 2008.- Euterpe Prize from the Valencian Federation of Musical Societies for his composition, 'Lucentum Symphony'.
- 2008.- Prize at the Sixth Novi Ligure "Romualdo Marenco" International Composition Competition in Alesandria (Italy), with the piece, 'Lux Mundi'.
- 2009.- Second Prize at the Second Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra Composition Competition and the Special Frederic Fennell Prize (Japan), with his composition, 'De Causis - The Order of the Chaos'. It was the compulsory piece for the Honorary Division of the 125th International Band Contest "City of Valencia".
- 2010.- Third Prize and Audience Prize at the Harelbeke International Wind Ensemble Composition Contest (Belgium), with the piece 'Triodion - El libro de las Tres Odas'.
- 2011.- Second Prize in the European Composition Contest for the CMF National Youth Harmony Orchestra.
He currently teacher Counterpoint and Fugue at the Valencia "Joaquín Rodrigo" Superior Conservatory of Music, where he has given conducting, analysis, harmony and composition courses. |
