Iluminada Pérez Frutos

Iluminada Pérez Frutos holds a doctorate with International Mention from the Universidad de Granada. She is a composer, researcher, lecturer at the "Victoria Eugenia" Conservatory of Music of Granada, as well as a guitarist and pianist.

Iluminada began her music studies at the Conservatory of Music of Badajoz, earning professional and university degrees in different fields, namely piano, guitar, solfeggio and music theory; she furthered her studies at the "Victoria Eugenia" Royal Conservatory of Music of Granada, where she obtained the Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera (Special Award for Outstanding Graduate) specialising in Music Composition. She holds a Diploma in Business Administration with Accounting from the Universidad de Extremadura.

She has received numerous awards, most notably First Prize at the Concurso Internacional de Composición D. Juan De Borbón, First Prize at the 1st Concurso Nacional de Composición para Ensemble de Percusión as part of the European Meeting of Contemporary Percussion, Musical Prize at the Competition held by the Académie Royale des Sciences, des Lettres & des Beaux-Arts of Belgium, Honourable Mention Citation in recognition of her performance and achievement of the "International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition" in the USA, First Prize at the Unna Internationale Komponistinnen Bibliothek in Germany, Third Prize at the Kazimierz Serocki 11th International Composers' Competition in Poland, Second Prize at the Concurso Internacional de Composición "Pablo Sorozábal", Prize awarded by the Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporánea (Centre for the Dissemination of Contemporary Music), as part of the Encuentro de Composición Musical Injuve (Injuve Music Composition Conference), Finalist at the 24th Alea III International Composition Competition Boston, Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera (Special Award for Outstanding Graduate) specialising in Musical Composition by unanimous jury decision, and an Award of Honour for her achievement in Musical Composition in Upper-Level Vocational Training, etc.

In her training as composer, she has studied with William Kinderman, Ivan Nomick, Michael Musgrave, Salvatore Sciarrino, Brian Ferneyhough, Cristóbal Halffter, Mauricio Sotelo, Manferd Trojahn, José Manuel López, Julio Estrada, James Dillon, Kaija Saariaho, and others.

She also carried out research as part of her PhD Dissertation entitled "Al-Azahar, Aromas de leyenda como objeto de estudio" (Synergies between Classical Music and Scents).

She was commissioned by the Congress of Deputies and General Courts (Spanish house of parliament) to compose a piece commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Spanish Constitution, to be performed before Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain.

She currently divides her time between her work as composer and that as Lecturer at the "Victoria Eugenia" Royal Conservatory of Music of Granada.
