Miguel A. Roig-Francoli
Miguel A. Roig-Francolí (Ibiza, 1953) lives in the USA, where he's a Distinguished Professor of Music Theory and Composition at the University of Cincinnati.
His work as a composer, musicologist and teachers has been widely recognized and won awards internationally.
His compositions have been performed in Spain, England, Germany, Mexico, Italy, France, Colombia, Switzerland and the USA. His works for orchestra and wind band have been performed in venues such as Madrid's Teatro Real and the Auditorio Nacional, the Palau de la Música Catalana, L'Auditori in Barcelona, the Palau de la Música in Valencia, and the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
They have been performed by the Spanish National Orchestra and Choir, the RTVE Orchestra, the Ciudad de Barcelona Orchestra, the Valencia Municipal Orchestra, the Madrid Symphony Orchestra (with the Ballet of the Teatro Lírico Nacional), the Madrid Region Orchestra and Choir, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, the CCM Philharmonia (Cincinnati), the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra (Medellín, Colombia), the CCM Wind Ensemble (Cincinnati), the Barcelona Municipal Wind Band and the Palma de Mallorca Municipal Wind Band, among others.
As a musicologist and music theorist, Roig-Francolí has published more than twenty articles in leading specialist journals in the USA, England, Italy and Spain.
He is the author of two college textbooks used in more than a hundred universities in the USA and Canada, and their Chinese translations are also used in the major conservatories in China.
His many prizes and distinctions include the Medal of Honor from the Superior Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands (2004); the University of Cincinnati's A.B. "Dolly" Cohen Award for Excellence in Teaching (2007); the George Rieveschl Award for Creative and/or Scholarly Works, also from the University of Cincinnati (2009); the Ramón Llull Prize from the Government of the Balearic Islands (2010); and the Gold Medal from the Government of Ibiza (2014).
