HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Banda Sinfónica de la Societat Instructiva Unió Musical of Tavernes de la Valldigna made its debut in 1883.

The Band's first conductor was Lorenzo Sancho. In 1928 the original band split in two. In 1939 the two bands merged to once again to form the single group we know today. The years from 1945 to 1964 were a critical period for the Band due to high levels of emigration.

In 1965 the Band began its slow recovery and in 1969 Eduardo Arnau Moreno became its conductor. He considerably improved the Band's technical level and lead it in Division One of the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia".

In 1979 the Band took part in Special Division A, now the Honorary Division, where they still participate today, and also took part in 1915, 1916, 1917, 1930, 1934 and 1945.

The latest prizes they have won in the Valencia CIBM, and other contests, are as follows:

  • 1979 Honorable mention - Special A
  • 1980 and 1981 First prize - Special B
  • 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985 Honorable mention - Special A

  • 1989 First prize - Special A
  • 1992 Honorable mention - Youth Division
  • 1996 First prize - Honorary Division
  • 2000 First prize - Honorary Division
  • 2006 Second prize. Aranda de Duero Contest
  • 2007 Second prize. Magallón Contest
  • 2012 Second prize. Aranda de Duero Contest
  • 2013 Third prize. Honorary Division.

The Association currently has 190 member musicians; more than 70 of them are professional musicians who work in conservatories, orchestras and bands across Spain.
On 27 December 2008, in recognition of its 125th anniversary, our Band received the Medalla de Oro from the FSMCV.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR

Carlos Revert Espí

Carlos Revert Espí was born in Agullent (Valencia). He received his degree in saxophone, tutored by Miguel Llopis, from the Valencia Superior Conservatory of Music.

He attended master classes in saxophone with Rafael Sanz, Manuel Miján, Arno Bornkamp, Claude Delangle and Serge Bichon. He has studied harmony, counterpoint, analysis and orchestration with Javier Darias, and harmony and analysis with Luis Blances.

He studied conducting with Rafael Sanz, Eduardo Cifre, Enrique García Asensio, Manuel Hernández Silva and Denise Ham.

His conducting career began with the "Eduardo Torres" Choir of Albaida, with which he won prizes in international contests.

He went on to conduct several wind bands, including: the Primitiva Albaidense; Chella; Lira Carcaixentina; Associació Musical Canalense; Lira Castellonense; Banda Simfònica Unió de Carlet; Agrupació Musical d'Agullent and Banda Sinfónica Santa Cecilia de Requena.

He has given concerts with Spanish and foreign soloists, and has worked with choirs to perform choir, orchestral and band repertoire.

He has conducted the following orchestras: "Ciutat d'Elx", "Ciutat de Novelda", "Santa Cecília de Requena", and Orquesta "la Valldigna". He has been invited to conduct the Madrid Municipal Wind Band three times.

He has recorded several wind band music CDs and has collaborated with the CDMC (Center for the Promotion of Contemporary Music) in the release of contemporary music for saxophone.

He has previously divided his time between conducting and teaching saxophone at the Conservatories of Ontinyent, Elda, Utiel and Elche. He currently teaches at the Castellón Superior Conservatory of Music and, as a saxophone teacher, has taught numerous master classes.

Since 2011 he has conducted the Banda Simfònica de la SIUM of Tavernes de la Valldigna, with which he won third prize in the Honorary Division of the CIBMV 2013.
