HISTORY OF THE BAND
The Xativa "Primitiva" Band was founded as an association in 1902, with Vicente Tormo Castelló as its President, although it was recognized as a civil band before 1860.
Great teachers and performers have emerged from the Primitiva, who form part of conservatories and national, civil and military bands.
The Band has given extraordinary concerts with guest conductors, including Maestros Cervera Lloret, Cervera Collado and José María Malato, Maestro Granero, Eduardo Cifre, Francisco Tamarit and Francisco José Perales Hierro.
The band has given concerts all over the Iberian Peninsula and has taken part in numerous concerts where they have won different prizes, including:
- First Prize, Gold Medal and Honorable Mention in Division One of the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" in 1986, the Contest's centenary year.
- First Processional Prize, First Prize in Concert Harmony and Golden Kettledrum for receiving the highest marks of the day at the World Music Concert in Kerkrade, Holland, in 1989.
- First Prize in the "City of Requena" Contest in 1992.
- First Prize in the Special Division of the Fifth Villa de Leganés Contest in 1995.
- First Prize in the Special Division of the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" in 2000.
- Third Prize in the Special Division of the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" in 2002.
- First Prize and Honorable Mention in Division One of the Valencia Provincial Contest in 2006.
The most important events in the Band's history occurred in the 1980s. In these years and directed by Ramón Ramírez Beneyto, the group won the highest national and international awards, situating the Band among the best ensembles in the Region of Valencia.
In 1989, the Xativa "Primitiva" Youth Orchestra was founded, which has given concerts all over Spain with great success.
The Xativa "Primitiva" Music School has 26 qualified teachers who give classes in every instrument and music theory, and 200 pupils from Xativa and its surrounding area.
Today, the Primitiva has a total of 150 musicians, under the baton of the Principal Conductor, Teo Aparicio Barberán. Eduardo Cifre Galllego is the Band's Honorary Conductor.
Since 2010, Luis Enrique Alonso Vidal has been President of the Association.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR
Teo Aparicio-Barberán
Teo Aparicio-Barberán was born in Enguera in 1967.
He began his saxophone studies with M. Vidal and Francisco Moral. He also studied Double Bass, Piano, Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue, Composition and Orchestra Conducting, receiving honorable mentions at the end of his courses. He names Luis Blanes as the true mentor of his musical career.
He has been head conductor of the bands of Enguera, Fte. La Higuera, Vva. de Castellón, Quart de Poblet and Alaquàs, and guest conductor of numerous instrumental groups (the Lliria "Primitiva" Band, L´Ampurda Orchestra, the Albacete Symphony Orchestra, the Palma de Mallorca Municipal Band, the Monserrat Music Association, Sta. María da Feira Symphonic Band in Portugal, the Alicante Municipal Band, and the Buñol "La Artística", among others).
He directed the Havana National Concert Band for their 105th anniversary performance and the San José de Costa Rica National Band. For the 2007 and 2009 seasons he was principal conductor of the FSMCV Band.
He has composed more than a hundred musical works for different instrumental groups. Some of these have been performed in Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Belgium, Japan, Holland and the United States. His works have been performed in numerous national and international competitions such as the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia", the Kerkrade WMC, the Fliscorno de Oro in Italy or that held in Lichtensteig. His music can be found on more than 15 CDs and has been released by Piles, Tot per l´aire, Albadoc and Beriato.
He has worked as a teacher of Band Conducting and Orchestration in the prestigious Ibero-American courses organized by the University of Costa Rica. Furthermore, during 2008 and 2009 he gave classes in Conducting and Orchestration in different workshops organized by the Colombian Ministry of Culture.
Currently he is the Conductor of the Enguera "Santa Cecilia" Music Association and the Xativa "Primitiva" Symphonic Band. |
