Banda Sinfónica Especial Escuela de Formación Musical de Samacá

On 23 June 2008, 125 children were brought together to form the Banda Sinfónica del Municipio de Samacá, Boyacá, Colombia.

In February 2013 the Band was invited to Argentina, representing Colombia in the Festival de La Vendimia (Mendoza, Argentina).

In 2015 it took part in the Concurso Departamental de Bandas and won First Prize in the basic category and the prize for the best arrangement of a tribute piece. In the Concurso Nacional de Bandas it won First Prize and the prize for the best performance of the tribute piece. The Band also took part in the Festival Nacional “El pescador” held in San Andrés Islas.

In October 2021 the Band came first in the Concurso Nacional de Bandas in La Vega and Jonathan González (percussion) won the prize for the best instrumentalist. In September 2022 in the Concurso Departamental the Band won First Prize in the basic category, the prize for the best performance of the compulsory piece, best conductor (Julián Ropero) and the prize for the best instrumentalist went to Juan Alba (piccolo). This same year the Band was invited to the 9th Festival Internacional de Música Fimcancun in Cancún, Mexico.

In the 2023 Concurso Departamental the Band won First Prize, best director for Julian Ropero and best instrumentalist for Mariana Aponte (clarinet). In September 2023 the Band took part in the Concurso Nacional del Bambuco Inédito en Tocancipá, where it won First Prize in the basic category and best instrumentalist prizes for Lorena Corredor (saxophone) and Mariana Aponte (clarinet). In October 2023 the Band entered the Concurso Nacional de Bandas Musicales and won First Prize in the basic category. In November 2023 the Band was invited to return to take part in the 10th Festival Internacional de Música Fimcancun in Cancún, Mexico.


Edisson Julián Ropero Borda

Edisson Julián Ropero Borda began studying the trumpet when he was 12 years old with the Banda Juvenil de Tinjacá. Currently he is the principal conductor of the Banda Sinfonica Especial de Samacá and a trumpet player in the San Miguelito ensemble. He recently won First Prize in the 2023 Concurso Nacional de Bandas with the Banda Sinfónica Especial de Samacá.

In 2019 he won prizes for the best instrumentalist in the Concurso Nacional del Pasodoble in Tibacuy and the best instrumentalist in trumpet in the Concurso Nacional de Bandas in Anapoima. In the same year he won the Festival Internacional de Música in Cancún (Mexico) and was a finalist in the Concurso Internacional de Trompeta “Sonidos de México” in Queretaro (Mexico).

He has received various prizes and honors: best performer at a national level at the Concurso Nacional de Bandas de Paipa 2003; best instrumentalist at the Concurso Departamental de Bandas de Boyacá 2004; best performer at a national level at the Concurso Nacional de Bandas, Bambuco Inédito Tocancipá (Cundinamarca) 2005; best performer at the Concurso Nacional de Bandas de Paipa 2006; and best wind band conductor in the Zonales de Boyacá in 2007. He was a member of the Banda Sinfónica del Conservatorio de la Universidad Nacional in 2007 and a soloist in the Banda Sinfónica de Tocancipá in the Concurso Internacional de Bandas Altea (Spain) in 2009. He made a special guest appearance as an instrumentalist in a gala concert with the Banda Sinfónica de Venezuela under the direction of maestro Gustavo Dudamel in 2012 and in the same year he also taught trumpet in the Banda Sinfónica Departamental de Boyacá. He was a semifinalist and came in fourth place in the Concurso Latinoamericano de Trompeta Eric Aubier in Medellín in 2014 and was invited by the Ministerio de Cultura to give trumpet workshops at a national level.
